#19 Enjoy Yourself
When was the last time you stood at the beginning of a talk, the hosting of anything, or any performance and said quietly inside:
“Just enjoy yourself”
We live in a culture that rewards great performances. And we are programmed to compare ourselves with the best performers we see out there.
Even more insidiously, we have internalised a performance culture so that we live under the constant self-surveillance of what and how well we are, or are not doing.
Into this very space, the joyful creature of enjoyment jolsts.
And they ask: “what would it be like if you just enjoyed yourself as an antidote to painful over performance or life sapping anxiety?”
It’s a paradoxical dance, but it might be a jig worth experimenting with.
